Your step-by-step guide to registering and getting approved to bid

Interested in bidding on a property through AffordaBid but not sure where to start?

Don't worry. Registering is straightforward, and we've put together this guide to walk you through the process, from creating your account to receiving confirmation that you're ready to bid.

Whether you're buying your first property at auction or you've purchased before, here's everything you need to know.

Get registered. Get approved. Get bidding.

Step 1: Create Your AffordaBid Account

Before you can register to bid on a property, you'll need to create an online account.

Visit the AffordaBid website, access our property auctions and select the option to register or create an account.

You'll be asked to provide your contact details, including your name, email address and telephone number. Once you've submitted your details, we'll send you an email containing an activation link.

Simply click the link to verify your email address and activate your account.

You can now log in, browse available properties, watch auctions you're interested in and access property legal packs.

Please note: Creating an account doesn't automatically give you permission to bid. You'll need to complete a separate bidder registration for the property you're interested in.

Step 2: Choose the Property You Want to Bid On

Once you've created your account, find the property you're interested in and open its auction listing. From here, select the option to Register to Bid.

This starts the bidder registration process for that particular property. If you're interested in more than one property, you may need to register to bid on each one separately.

Step 3: Verify Your Identity

Before we can approve you to bid, we'll need to confirm your identity. When registering for the first time, you'll be asked to:

  • Verify your mobile telephone number.

  • Upload a valid form of photographic identification, such as a passport or driving licence.

  • Provide recent proof of your residential address, dated within the last three months.

Make sure your documents are clear, legible and up to date. We may also contact you if we need additional information to complete our identity verification checks.

These checks are an important part of our registration process and help us maintain a secure and transparent auction environment.

Step 4: Read and Accept the Auction Terms

Before proceeding, you'll be asked to read and accept our Auction Terms and Conditions.

There may also be additional terms or documents specific to the property you've selected.

Please take the time to read these carefully before accepting them as property auctions involve legally binding commitments, so it's essential that you understand the terms you're agreeing to.

Once accepted, copies of the relevant documents will be emailed to you for your records.

Step 5: Register Your Payment Card

As part of bidder registration, you'll be asked to provide details of a valid credit or debit card. This is required for the bidder security amount, which will be clearly displayed during registration.

What is bidder security?

Bidder security is a financial authorisation used as part of the registration process.

When you register your card, a temporary hold may be placed on the specified amount.

This is not an immediate payment. However, the funds will be ring-fenced, meaning you won't be able to spend them while the hold remains in place.

The amount held will reduce the available balance on your card or bank account.

What happens to the money?

If you're unsuccessful at auction, the hold will be released. Depending on your card provider, it may take several days before the funds become available again.

If you're the successful bidder, the bidder security amount will be charged to your registered card in accordance with the applicable auction terms or if you prefer you can electronically transfer the funds.

Important: Make sure you have sufficient available funds before registering your card. A hold on funds can affect your ability to use that money for other purchases.

Step 6: We Review Your Registration

Once you've completed the registration steps, your application will be submitted to AffordaBid for review.

We'll check that the necessary information has been provided and that the required verification steps have been completed.

Occasionally, we may need to contact you for further details or supporting documents.

We may also carry out an electronic identity verification check where required.

If we need anything else, we'll let you know.

Step 7: You're Approved and Ready to Bid!

Once your registration has been approved, you'll receive an email confirming that you're authorised to bid.

That's it! Your registration is complete.

You can now log in to your account and place bids on the property you've registered for once its auction is open.

Remember, being approved to bid doesn't mean you have to place a bid. It simply means you're ready to participate when you choose.

Before You Place Your First Bid

Although this guide focuses on registration, there's one important point we'd like to leave you with. Never place a bid until you're completely satisfied with the property, its Legal Pack and the financial commitments involved. For more information about legal packs please click here.

We strongly recommend viewing the property, arranging your finances and asking your solicitor to review the Legal Pack before bidding.

Once a successful bid results in a sale at auction, you'll be entering into a legally binding contract.
